The Asom Rajyik Krishak Samannay Samity (ARKSS)-an NGO formed in 1995 (Regd. No. 1933/1995-96) by unemployed youths & Poor farmers who imbibed the principles of rural development and started development works in conjunction with the development programmes of the Government & Other organizations in the Brahmaputra Valley of Assam since inception. The NGO has formed quite a number of SHGs & JLGs in every block of different districts and selected out ideal SHGs & JLGsfor timely implementation of targeted programmes under agriculture and allied area (Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Sericulture & Weaving). The SHGs & JLGs were selected through a socio-economic survey based on their cultivated area, land less farmer, present occupation, status, willingness to work and similar parameters. Initeally works of the society were done from the contribution of every member of SHGs & JLGs.
a) Proposed & action being taken for the following programmes : Rice (Certified Seed Preoduction)-54 clusters, Vegetable-48 clusters, Assam Lemon-20 clusters, Dairy-20 clusters, Fishery-25clusters, Pig rearing-25 clusters, Goat rearing-20 clusters, Commercial layer farm-23 clusters, Commercial Broiler farm- 27 clusters & Commercial Duck farm- 80 clusters.
b) Vocational Traning Centre for bi-monthly training of SHG & JLGs members of educated unemployed youths in agriculture and allied areas in all districts of Assam.
The training component is an important part of the society. It is also mandetory to train the rural educated unemployed youths of the state. For this purpose the society has already conducted the following programmes from society's own fund as well as Dept. of Agri., Govt. of Assam.
1) The society trained 50 numbers of educated unemployed youths at Moran, Dibrugarh in 2005 on the subjects such as Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandary, Fishery, Sericulture and Agri. Engineering from own source of fund. The training was conducted by retired Professors, Scientists of AAU. We have technical partners such as Bureau of Integrated Rural Development and NEOLAND Technologies which have all these technocrats.
2) We also requested the District Officer's of the Kokrajhar, Nagaon & Lakhimpur districts of Govt. of Assam and they arranged and conducted the same type training by Dept. Officers of the districts to our members of 33 blocks and trained 4230 numbers of educated unemployed youths of our society.
3) The society conducted one Two monthly training programme to our 120 numbers of unemployed youths members at Guwahati on August-September, 2005 on the subjects of Agriculture, horticulture, Animal Husbandary, Fishery, Agri. Engineering and Sericulture. The trainees were from 5 districts of Brahmaputra Valley and they are members of this society.
4) The Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Assam, vide letter no. Agri/Extn/NAES/89(A) 2008-09/29- A dated 16.06.09 alloted 21 trainings of 2days each in 21 districts on the "Registered Seed Grower's Training" programme under RKVY. The society successfully completed all the trainings with experts from BIRD, Assam Agricultural University and Dept. of Agriculture. The trainings were conducted by Dr. D.N. Chakravarty, Retd. Dean, AAU, Jorhat and Chief Advisor of our society. We have also publish a consolidated report of the training which is highly appreciated by Govt. departments.
5) The State Institute of Rural Development under Deptt. of Panchayat and Rural Development, Govt. of Assam vid letter no. SIRD-36/2008/75-A dated 23/11/09 alloted and the society conducted Six Awarrness Camps under Chief Minister Jivan Jyoti Swaniojan Yojana and the society conducted the camps at Khetri, Kamrup (M) district, Meyong Girl's High School, Morigaon district, Kamrup district at Bamundi, Goalpara district at Kahikuchi, Morigaon district at Morigaon and Darrang district at Mongaldoi.
6) The second phase of RKVY training on "Registered Seed Grower's Training" started in February' 2010 and completed 7 districts of Bongaigaon, Nagaon, Marigaon, Kamrup (R), Kamrup (M), Barpeta and Baska by the end of March' 2010.
A series of 2 days trainings are being conducted on Central Sponsored Scheme Agricultural Technology Management Agency (CSS-ATMA) sponsored by Director of Agriculture, Govt. of Assam. under Swaniojan World Bank Development Programme. Already two training one for Goalpara district (14th & 15th July, 2011) and Darrang district (8th & 9th Sept., 2011) have already been conducted where the districts ADO, VLEWs, Agricultural Functionaries such as Agri. Clinic, Entrepreneurs and farmer were present.
1) The society at the initiative Dr. D.N. Chakravarty, Chief Advisor started publishing a monthly Assamese Magazine "SEUJI ASOM" (Green Assam) from the month of March' 2010. The magazine is orianted to develop agricultural and allied vocation among educated unemployed youths of Assam through practical implementation under field condition. The magazine gain popularly not only among farmers but also among teachers and students of different districts. The magazine in future will be published as bulletien.
2) A booklet in Assamese on "Pramanita Bij Utpadan (Certified Seed Production)" was published by the society.
3) Another booklet in Assamese "Krishi Aru Udyan Sashya Prajukti (Agriculture and Horticulture Technology)" was also published by the society.
The society has formed 340 clusters for future field activities as per mandate with the strong Executive Body of 7 members and 27 districts co-ordinators. The society has Dr. D.N. Chakravarty, Former Dean (Agri) AAU as the Chief Adviser and two technical advisory groups-Bureau of Integrated Rural Development with experienced retired technocrats in agri. & allied areas and NEOLAND Technologies an advanced Soil & Water testing & research laboratory with retired technical experts from AAU and Tcklai Research Station. With this strength of human resources the society is being, able to perform number of rural agri activities with scientific base.. The KVK of AAU and allied govt. departments collaboration has enhanced our activities in a positive way.
